O is for Open

When growing up, I always told my son that he needed to be open to new experiences, to try something new, have a new experience and really live the life he had been given.  Of course I don't want him to be open to try those things that could actually bring him harm, and there has to be a balance.

It is the living of your life that helps form your view of the world, to see the richness of your environment and learn about different cultures, see the whole of the world and not just the house and the surrounding streets that you were born, and the local shops that you visit.  I know people who are afraid to drive outside the area they live limiting themselves to seeing things in new ways.  Today I celebrate being open and adventurous and look forward to the many things I have yet to experience and see of this world.

  2. Thank you for visiting my blog. I am one of those quirky creative people who have so many ideas but not enough focus. I think that you will influence your son more than you know in the arts area. I see that you live in London -- so many wonderful museums. My favorites were the Turner Paintings in the Tate. Thank you for helping people to find their creativity, despite their health issues. Blessings to you.

  5. Great advice for anyone. If we don't allow ourselves to be at least somewhat open, we can miss out on so much of value.

I really like how you're promoting other blogs each day. Thank you!

  6. Just last night I told my 5 yr-old she needed to be open to trying new foods.

This post made me wonder if I'm 'open' as well to knew people, places and experiences.

  9. Hi Amanda .. you've touched many a heart here ... being open is difficult .. and I was very reserved - but opened up (some) once I sat on a sports committee and had to organise lots of tournaments and things .. then again ..

... the real opening up came when my mother was ill in hospital and when there are so many issues to be dealt with - the most important of which was giving my mother the best.

I know you are going through a similar process with your mother - different ... as things always are ..

With many thoughts - but you are so right to encourage your son.

    Cheers Hilary

  10. Hi Amanda, I'm nominating you for a liebster award. Check out the details here: http://mamajess66.blogspot.ca/

Beautiful post. I agree wholeheartedly with what you have to say. I see this all too often, where people are afraid of opening their minds and their hearts. Travel and acceptance makes all the difference.
